ESSENTIAL OIL SUMMER FAVORITES
Summer 2019 came in a hurry and I’m sure it will be gone before we know it. I may be the only super excited for it to scurry away because truth be told, this is my last favorite season. I know…I know there are some of you shaking your heads but it’s true. I’m waiting patiently for fall and all things pumpkin! Ok, I’ll get back on track here and get focused back on summer even though I’d rather be diffusing all the fall oils…soon Hattie. Soon!
Y’all know our family loves our essential oils so I thought I would answer some FAQ with a favorites edition of Young Living goodies! Here is what the Wiginton keeps close in the hot summer months.
SUMMER PRODUCT FAVS
1. PEPPERMINT + LAVENDER ESSENTIAL OILS
Straight out of the gate I’m gonna chat up our essential oil must-keep-a-massive-stock-in-the-event-we-run-out-then-all-craziness-breaks-loose. Peppermint is the oil we use on itchy bug bites and Lavender is the oil we use on our skin after we forgot to use sunblock. Use either neat or to dilute use a dab of carrier oil, like coconut oil. Peppermint is a hot oil so do not rub your eyes or pick your nose after using. Speaking from experience for myself and entire family. I keep these in my purse and we always take them with us when traveling. Read more of my favorite uses for peppermint here.
2. MINERAL SUNSCREEN + LAVADERM COOLING MIST + AFTER-SUN SPRAY
MINERAL SUNSCREEN // Protect that skin friends! The mineral sunscreen is natural and chemical-free making it a healthy choice for kids and adults. Up to 80 minutes of water-and-sweat resistant lotion AND it’s got the stamp of approval from the Skin Cancer Foundation for daily use. Momma says yes.
Ok, so lets say you forgot to use sunscreen and you’re left feeling a little…ouchie. Our favorites for this is hands down the Lavaderm Cooling Mist and the After-Sun Spray. They sound like they address the same things, but they’re not:
COOLING MIST // cooling spray for your skin and it feels sooooo good
AFTER-SUN SPRAY // temporary relief from pain and itching associated from burns
3. INSECT REPELLANT
- 100% naturally-derived, plant-based
- 99% of the active ingredients are essential oils
- 1% vitamin E
This stuff is so dang good! I added mine to a roller to keep in my purse at all times.
4. SEEDLINGS BABY WIPES
No the Wigintons are not having a baby…but we do keep the Seedlings wipes on hand! In fact I have 3 in my cabinet right now. We use these for dirty hands at the baseball field, a quick freshen up after the gym and for a makeup remover. One of the main reasons why I only use these wipes and not another brand is because they are formulated without:
- chlorine
- alcohol
- sulfates
- parabens
- phthalates
- mineral oil
- animal-derived ingredients
- synthetic preservatives
- synthetic fragrances
- synthetic dyes
What are you putting on your baby’s bum? Or what are you using to wash your face at night?
5. VITALITY OILS
We love to add vitality oils to our water to help encourage us to drink lots in the summer. My absolute favorite is orange and my hubby’s favorite is lime! (Just make sure you use a glass cup and stainless steel straw since you’re adding oil to the water.) There’s so many benefits to adding vitality oils to your water: read them here!
6. KIDSCENTS LOTION
Shorts season means shaved legs. My sensitive skin can’t handle just any lotion and even though I’m 38 years old, but this is my favorite lotion! I don’t know what it is about this lotion but the smell is so good and it feels great on my skin. My fun tip…hack this lotion into TWO bottles! Double this bottle by pouring half of it into an empty KidScents Lotion bottle and filling each up the rest of the way with hot water. Shake to mix. It makes the lotion a tad runnier but for me I love it. It’s the perfect amount of moisture with each application!
7. NINGXIA NITRO
Ningxia Nitro is something we love when we need a boost of energy and clarity before hitting the gym, or even on days we’re just having a hard time getting things going. Summer nights keep us up way later than we usually do so there are for sure days I feel like a zombie. Nitro is made of essential oils and other safe energy boosting ingredients which is another win for us!
8. SUPER B
We stay up much later in the summer and exert so much more energy in the summer…or is that just in my head? The daylight lasts much later so we’re up way past my bedtime a lot and with all the activities and projects my body gets seriously wore down. I make sure my husband and I take our Super B every single day to keep our energy up and running.
SUMMER ROLLERS
Tummy Roller // I’ll just admit it right now, we don’t eat the best in the summer. Between vacations and always being at the baseball field, we may tend to eat on the run and if you’re like me I use the excuse that well, we’re just too busy so let’s grab something quick. We then have to grab the tummy roller. Add 10 drops DiGize + 10 drops Peppermint in a 10mL roller. Fill with carrier oil. (Read all about DiGize here.)
Athelet’s Foot Roller // I have a child that is always dealing with sweaty feet and if we’re not careful, he’ll have feet issues. We use this roller after showers to help with feet that tend to show signs on it.
Wellness Roller // We don’t just use our Thieves in the winter…oh no. All of this summer running around wears us out physically, which means our immune system is wearing out too. Do not wait until winter to start using Thieves. Ever.
Deep Relief Roller// This is my favorite favorite roller for the gym and when my kids are playing sports.
Stardust Roller // This is my favorite emotional roller at the moment. It helps keep me centered with all the summer comotion going on. Here’s where I found the recipe!
SUMMER DIFFUISING
Nighttime // The sun goes down later in the summer and arguing with my daughter on why we have to go to bed is seriously not something I like doing. 3 Stress Away + 3 Lavender + 3 Cedarwood + 4 Tangerine
Stink Away // Summer heat means summer sweat and I have boys that work hard mowing all summer. Their clothes and rooms always have a boy stink to it. 2 Thieves + 2 Purification + 4 Citrus Fresh
Outside // Take your favorite diffuser outside to help with any bugs and add about 6 drops of Citronelle essential oil.
Orange Cremesicle // My summer go-to recipe is equal parts Stress Away + Orange, and I usually use 3-4 drops each depending on which diffuser I’m using.
SUMMER DIYS
I looooooove DIYs! I like to know what’s in my products. What ingredients am I slathering on my body and my children’s bodies? It does matter, a lot. Here are my summer favorite DIYs!
Mermaid Hair // all the oils that are great for supporting healthy hair growth! I apply this on my wet hair straight onto the root and then a spray all over. I use this on my daughter as well!
Detangler // this is a great alternative to a store-bought detangler that isn’t filled with a bunch of chemical junk. I also spray this over my hair if it starts to frizz with heat and humitidy.
Sugar Scrub // I change up the oils I use in this recipe depending on the season. For summer time my favorite is Orange + Stress Away!
Room Spray // The summer blend I’m loving is Lavender + Lime + Vanilla, but you can honestly do literally anything that you feel is summer to you!
I hope you find these helpful, and hopefully most of you have these things on hand already to make a few to start using right away. Lots of these are perfect for gifts and hostess gifts during the holidays!
