THANKSGIVING 2019 AND THE BEGINNING OF OUR HOLIDAY SEASON

Here I am again, sharing about our Thanksgiving weekend and trying hard to organize our holiday season as well for our holiday calendar. It’s so crazy that another year has flown by!

Thanksgiving was in the last week of November this year and I usually have an extra week afterwards to prepare for the holidays. My new mantra lately has been “it’s just going to have to be ok this time”…as I scratch ideas that aren’t realistic or realize my schedule is too full. I had to rearrange activities last minute because things just didn’t pan out. AND IT’S OK. The holidays are HERE, and that’s all that matters to this Mama. I can wing it, change it, move it around as I see fit…as long as we are doing something as a family!

But before we get into the holiday festivities, lets recap Thanksgiving and our weekend.

Another Thanksgiving spent with our church family and it was wonderful as always. My family came to eat with us this year and it blessed my heart so much to just sit with them and visit. Family time is so precious to me.

This is the only picture I took, oopsie! This is the third year our church has provided a Thanksgiving meal for our community and each year we go home from preparing, serving and cleaning up exhausted and ready for leftovers…but we don’t have any. SO…this year when we went home I made us a massive Thanksgiving dinner. We didn’t eat until like 7:30 that evening, but it was great!

Thanksgiving table cloth from Walmart was a hit!

Even Grandma got in on some coloring, after Milani told her to of course.

If was just us, Wiginton party of five that ate a Thanksgiving supper and we were ok with that. Everyone seems to go in a bunch of different directions and we ended up eating as a family for the first time in probably twenty years.

As I type this, I’m not sick of the leftovers yet. So yummy!! You can find the recipes to all of this here!

Cookie salad and cherry salad is ALWAYS a must!

This pumpkin gooey butter cake is THE BEST! If you like pumpkin pie you will love this. And you may even prefer it like my family does.

Adam and I took some time on Saturday for a special date night. We had a lot to celebrate as a family, married couple and business partners. God is showing us how amazing life can be when we yield to His ways and not our own. It’s been hard hard work, but so worth it!

And now the time of year we wait for…December in the Wiginton house! Our holiday calendar is so. much. fun. If you are new here, you will need to go here first to read all this! You can search “holiday calendar” in my blog to find looooots of ideas as well so you can make your own holiday fun.

December 1 came super fast after Thanksgiving this year, thanks to how the calendar fell this year, so it was a mad dash to get things ready. Whew. I barely made it in time and I am learning more and more each year that done is so much better than perfect.

Milani opened our first card and it said we would finish our Christmas decorations, watch our favorite Christmas movie (Christmas Vacation) and drink some eggnog. Well, I don’t drink it, but they do.

We ring in the holiday season with a package, and it’s usually Christmas jammies and a puzzle. I failed to grab a new puzzle this year so just the jammies this time!

I’ve been doing this since 2015 and they will probably look forward to this month until they’re grown and out of the house. And then, they will wish they could be young again.

Wiginton jammies 2019…THE GRINCH. Milani’s came with matching jammies for her baby, and I had no clue until I wrapped it lol! Here’s where we got our Christmas pajamas this year.

Christmas Vacation on…always! We will watch it 587 times before December 25. No lie.

Eggnog for the weirdos…everyone but me.

My Aniston loves eggnog and it has to be in our moose cups. He loves the festive feelings. It’s so magical!

And then the time came to start the decorating…my favorite! I looooove (enter some more o’s) decorating for whatever season we’re in, but especially in December. The entire season overwhelms me with feelings of love for my family and my Savior.

I’m in the process of redoing my Christmas tree decor. I felt like making a vintage tree this year. We aren’t done yet since some of the decor hasn’t arrive yet, but this is what the kids got done so far.

My grandma’s hutch filled with some new and some old.

Gary came back and Milani has been waking up at 6am ever since. December is always the best month for my kids to wake up and not drag their feet.

DECEMBER IN THE WIGINTON HOUSE

We have just a little under a month to drink all the hot chocolate, watch every Christmas movie there is while snuggled up in my blankets, listen to Alexa play our Christmas Playlist over and over and doing all the holiday fun activities!! I love helping moms incorporate memories into their homes so that’s why I share all we do and make it as simple as I can!

Here is your 2019 Holiday Calendar download.

Copy it. Get inspired by it and make your own. Decide what you CAN do, and then do it. Don’t complicate it. Just know that anything you do, your kids are going to remember it always.

This year we have a brand new 12-day study to do as a family. The Twelve Names of Christmas was recommended by a friend and I can’t wait to start this new tradition. Grab yours here!

Who’s doing a holiday calendar this year? Be sure to tell me if you do! The holidays are here friends! xoxo

I feel all of these activities have brought us closer as a family. My wife being intentional with our family time has forced us to stop and take time with our kids before they get all grown up. I hated to be at the end of December and all we had was a couple of days of fun and lots of debt for presents that ended up in the bottom of the toy chest. My wife has created an atmosphere of “family time” and I know our kids when they are grown and out of the house, they will be wishing they could come home for the fun times.
